Happy Easter!

This week, I learned that it is not commonplace for the Easter Bunny to visit children's houses and leave them treats and presents in their Easter baskets.  Oh well.  Without this country to hop around, I guess that's how he has enough time to make it to all of the American children's homes.

I told Jackson that the Easter Bunny will be coming to our house, so I hope that he makes an exception.

Instead of the Easter Bunny tradition, many schools and nurseries have Easter bonnet decorating competitions.  My mom and dad used to buy my sister and I new Easter dresses each year with matching gloves, shoes, purses, and bonnets; however, we wore the bonnets as they came from the store.  The bonnet decorating tradition here involves getting a brimmed-hat of some sort and basically just gluing on anything Easter or Spring related, such as chicks, bunnies, or flowers.

Also, with the lack of white eggs, it seems that dying and decorating hardboiled eggs is not a tradition practised here, either.

Unfortunately, this week we had to make a trip to the GP for an eczema flare-up around Jackson's neck and back.  I asked the practitioners at the health centre about some redness that I noticed four weeks ago, but they said that it was probably due to 'dribbling' and it would go away.  It didn't go away completely, but it wasn't getting any worse.  Then suddenly this week, it looked incredibly red and sore.  After we went to see the doctor, Jackson was prescribed four different creams and bath additives and after just two days of treatment, his skin looks like it is back to normal!  Lee and I are both very relieved by this because we felt so bad for our little baby.

I hope that you all have a Happy Easter!  Last year, I taught this song to my class for Holy Week and they performed it (with gusto) for the school:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oN77HjfAc8k It's one of my favourite Easter songs.  Alleluia!  Christ is risen!

Developmental updates:  As of last Monday, Jackson weighs 19 pounds 12 ounces.  Jackson is playing more independently now because he can sit-up on his own for a longer period of time.  He concentrates very hard on selecting which toy with which to play.  While playing with his toys, he can pass them from hand-to-hand very fluidly and grasps toys that look like they are tricky to grab ahold of with ease.  When we hide toys within other objects, like small boxes, he likes to find them and pull them out.  Jackson has become very inquisitive and even more observant over the past week.  And of course, he is still very well-behaved and loved by all.

If you see Sammie Miles Davis, Jr. and Bella, give them my love.
