New Trick

Last Saturday, Jackson started sticking his tongue out and making a "zzz" sound which results in the production of a copious amount of bubbles.  He usually does this when he's happy, but he can also do it when mimicking Lee and me.  Up until now, Jackson has had moments of 'new tricks' like new sounds or novel reactions to certain toys; however, this is his first trick that he can repeat on cue.  Lee and I were laughing so hard that we were crying during the first round of these "zzz" noises and Jackson seemed to understand that he was being entertaining, even waiting for the laughs to die down before doing it again.  Maybe we have a stand-up comedian in the making?

On Wednesday, Jackson and I went to the first of a four-week baby massage class.  Apparently grape seed oil is a good substitute for Johnson's Baby Oil, if you're interested.  Because it doesn't have a scent like Johnson's, it is "less distracting" for the baby.  We're going to stick to using Johnson's at home, but I just thought I'd share the tip.  Jackson loved the session and it even lulled him into a two-hour nap!

Yesterday Jackson had his second round of shots (jabs).  He was much calmer going into the experience, but once the first of two injections happened, he screamed and cried at the top of his lungs.  Luckily this time though, he stopped crying and even fell asleep before we were off the doctor's office grounds.

Lee and I are so excited to see what each day brings with Jackson because it seems like he is able to do more and more each day.  He is a very observant little boy and it is so fun to watch him grow and learn.  We are eager to see what kind of person Jackson will grow-up to be, but of course at the same time, we want him to stay our little cuddly baby as long as possible.

Developmental updates:  Jackson sits in his high chair every night with us at the dinner table now and has yet to make it to the end of dinner still awake.  He joins in our conversations, but they must wear him out because he takes a short catnap for his dessert.  A couple times this week, he has shrieked in delight and it was quite loud, so that is another new sound, but not one that we tried to get him to repeat over and over.  Jackson is about half-way to sitting up on his own.  He lifts his head and the top-half of his chest, but still needs help to go the rest of the way.  Doing "baby sit-ups" is one of his favourite activities now and he has such a proud look every time he reaches sitting position.  Jackson loves to feel textures of clothes, toys, faces, hands, and anything else he can reach.  He's started grabbing his toes when they are in his line of sight, too.  He only hangs on for a few seconds, but he has realised that he has feet recently.  Until this week, Jackson used three or four burp cloths or muslin squares daily because of his overeating habits, but now (thankfully) he can make it through the day with two or three bibs.  And one of the best things that Jackson does is he always wakes up with a smile on his face.  He is such a joyful little boy!

If you see Sammie Miles Davis, Jr. and Bella, give them my love.
